Kinky Boots

Yesterday my mum and I went to see the musical Kinky Boots at the Hippodrome. I was planning on posting this last night but we got back quite late because we went for a meal with my dad and my brother at an Indian restaurant afterwards, which was absolutely lovely.

I really, really loved Kinky Boots itself. It wasn’t something I was overly familiar with beforehand, apart from it being about drag queens and a shoe factory. The songs haven’t really stuck in my head like they have with some other musicals (barely a week goes by where I don’t have a Wicked earworm!) but they were good, and so many of the characters were well realised, and it was just a lot of fun to watch! It had some very interesting commentary on masculinity – it wasn’t just a fun romp but was also very thought provoking.

It also provided me with a very appropriate opportunity to wear my purple glittery Doc Martens, which I got several compliments on – so even if I do now want to buy new shoes (don’t worry, I won’t!) I’m going to chalk this one as a win.

If you haven’t yet seen Kinky Boots and are a fan of musicals, I’d definitely recommend this production – even if you don’t enjoy it as much as I did, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon!
