Plans for July

As many of you know, I spent most of June in and out of hospital with vomiting and dehydration – I’m much better now, and able to keep food, medication and drink down, so my first aim is for that to continue!

Although many people are preparing for a relaxation in the lockdown, I’ve been instructed to keep shielding until August – it’s going to be strange seeing other people able to return to some sort of normal while I still can’t but I’m very lucky as I still have access to food thanks to my dad being able to go shopping and I even have some wonderful new slippers because of the miracle of onlineshopping.

The lockdown does mean that I have to miss out on a few shows I was looking forward to, but some places are putting things online which I wouldn’t necessarily have been able to see – I think next week, Hamilton is going to be on Disney plus, which is something I’ve wanted to see for a while but I’ve never been able to get tickets.

The other main thing I’m going to be doing for the next month is reading! At the beginning of the year I decided to try and read 52 books, an average of one a week. I’m a pretty fast but very inconsistent reader – some weeks I read seven books and other times I can go ages without finishing one. I’m currently on 35 books so I’m ahead of target! The last book I read was the Book of Queer Prophets, a collection of short essays on queerness and religion (mostly but not exclusively Christianity) – any recommendations would be appreciated!

The only thing I’m really disappointed with is the fact that we won’t be able to go on our family summer holiday as planned this year, to Dartmouth. It was meant to be in July but obviously that won’t now be possible – although health should always be prioritised, both for me and for other people classed as vulnerable. I’m sure Dartmouth will still be there once this has all blown over.

So, a different July awaits to the one I expected, but hopefully one that will nevertheless bring some joy and August might finally see me leave the house for non medical reasons!

  1. I have a friend who because of all her allergies is having to shield until March 2021 which will be 12 months of shielding. Really worried for her long term health as she already seems quite happy about not going out. Take care
