Technically this is supposed to take place over a year, but I’m very impatient so I’m just going to do it all at once! After all, as one of my favourite mugs says, I’m the oldest child, I make the rules.
1 – Self Portrait
This photo was taken on Monday – it’s me in my new Lucy and Yak dress. I apologise for the mismatched socks and for how bruised my legs are. I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of my meds or what, but at the moment all you need to do is touch me gently and I angry-bruise!
2 – Something that inspires you
I don’t often like the phrase inspiring, because often it gets used in a very patronising way. I do, however, find the Moomins inspiring – they make me want to be a better and a kinder person. I may often fail but I try!
3 – Your favourite colour
Purple is my favourite colour, although I’m a big fan of all the colours of the bi pride flag – hence my photo for this category being of my nail polish remover pad from when I painted my nails in bi pride colours!
4 – Black and White
This isn’t a black and white photo, but it is a black and white graphic novel – and a very good one. It took me longer to read than I expected but I really loved it.
5 – Rule of Thirds
This is my pineapple triptych! I bought some things to paint from Hobbycraft and this pineapple was one. It is currently next to a real pineapple, although I imagine that one tastes a lot nicer
6 – Complementary colours
My bi pride nails (which were responsible for photo 3!)
7 – Nature
This is an old photo I found on my phone – I think it was taken in Kingsbury Water Park, which is very close to where I live. I’m actually a bit scared of swans when I was much younger, I was bitten by either a swan or a goose and I can’t remember which.
8 – Sunrise
I don’t usually take photos of sunrises or sunsets (especially in the summer, I’m often asleep or trying to be) but I found this on my phone. I’m not sure who took it, where or when but it’s a lovely one. I like sunrises and sunsets best when they change the entire colour of the sky and make it look almost magical.
9 – Street
This photo was taken back on 2011 on Ashton Lane in Glasgow, a gorgeous cobbled street next to the university. We’d just been to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Grosvenor cinema!
10 – Low angle
A couple of years ago I went to a Harvest festival service in a barn on a farm, for which we were joined by Eeyore!
11 – Blue
This photo was taken back in 2016, when I last went to Iona. The sea and the sky were such beautiful shades of blue – although as you might expect from a Scottish island, the water was very, very cold!
12 – Extreme Close Up
Here is the bunting from the Brain Tumour Charity – this photo is from March, when I organised a coffee morning for the charity. I’m currently doing an ‘Indoor Three Peaks’ Challenge for them.
13 – Patterns
One of my plans for this week is to try and make some facemasks! Here is a photo of some of the patterns I’m planning to use.
14 – Symmetry
They aren’t very symmetrical but I love the slippers I bought during lockdown! As always, those are bruises not dirt on my legs. The first time I wore these around Arya, when she noticed them she was so scared she fell off my lap, which was hilarious! She’s grown to like them now though, I think…
15 – Negative space
I wasn’t quite sure what photo to use for this one – short of a photo of a camera negative, and I haven’t seen one of those in years! So, I’ll follow my usual rule – when in doubt, kitten photo!
I took this one just now – she looks so cosy and comfortable!
16 – Clouds
I love this photo – I took it in Stockholm and the clouds look so dark and foreboding!
17 – Food
I used to really enjoy baking but I find it quite difficult now, mostly because walking and carrying things at the same time is beyond me. A few months ago I decorated (and obviously then ate) these cupcakes – they didn’t turn out too badly!
18 – Green
This photo is from last Christmas. My brothers bought me this cuddly lion and of course he needed his own cracker and hat! His name is Leo and I’m still, several months on, trying to persuade Arya to sit on his back.
The wine isn’t his!
19 – Buildings
See if you can spot the major issue with this building…
20 – Something you’re grateful for
I’m very grateful for the NHS, for many obvious reasons. This mug was a present from my friend Paul a few years ago.
21 – Shadows
I don’t have any remotely appropriate photos for this so have one of Arya as a very little thing. Yes, that is a hospital sick bowl she’s in.
22 – Trees
I went to Stockholm for my 26th birthday and this is one of the photos I took. It snowed and made everything look even prettier than it would have done otherwise. I’d love to go back – I’m definitely a cold weather person so everything about Scandinavia suited me down to the ground.
23 – High Angle
Like all good cats, all Arya needs is boxes and food! Whenever I buy anything, she gets the box as a very exciting present.
24 – Water
Last year we went on holiday to Norfolk and this is one of the photos I took there (you can tell it’s Norfolk because it’s so flat!) – sadly my wheelchair, much like Anakin Skywalker, doesn’t like sand so I think I went to a pub instead.
25 – Red
I think I was about 18 when this was taken – it was at Wychwood Festival. I haven’t had Pimms in over three years now but it is the perfect summer drink! I can’t imagine a non-alcoholic equivalent being as nice, although I have been known to put strawberries and cucumber into Ribena – somehow it’s just not the same!
26 – Words
This is the book I’m reading at the moment – Bernadine Evaristo’s Blonde Roots. So far it’s kind of like Noughts and Crosses for adults, and I’m really enjoying it. Evaristo is probably my favourite author at the moment.
I’m now halfway through the 52 photos and it’s taking a lot longer than I expected so I’ll do the other 26 another day.
